‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: Sophie Turner on Sansa’s growth
Did Sansa Stark emerge from the shadows on “Game of Thrones” season 3? It may be a little bit of a stretch to say that, but what she did manage to do was get herself in a position where she was not constantly on the verge of dying. In marrying Tyrion, she is in a position where she will not be abused or harmed by him in any way, even if she hardly loves the man. This is still a major step above Joffrey, who wanted to torment and torture her at almost every possible moment.
So where does this character go from here? Based on what actress Sophie Turner tells Wetpaint in a new interview, it feels almost as though she is going to really utilize some of the skills that her husband has used over the years to get the upper hand in many situations:
“There’s a kind of big evolution [for Sansa] … She begins to kind of manipulate the people who have done wrong to her in her past. She becomes a powerhouse character but in a very subtle way. It’s really good … I feel like I’ve been waiting for a moment where I can manipulate the people that have come before me, so it was like I had been waiting for it for so long. It was a release.”
Sansa discovering her voice could be very integral for the future of the series, especially in the event that Jon Snow or Bran Stark ever finds a way to make it down to King’s Landing. The family clearly has a number of supporters, and while the results of the Red Wedding may have weakened them greatly, some of those people are still out there. After all, it is a nice counterpoint to the Lannisters and all of the oppression that they bring to the kingdom.
