‘The Bachelor’: Juan Pablo Galavis talks Clare Crawley, ‘gay Bachelor’ controversy on ‘GMA’
The moment that you first heard Monday morning that Juan Pablo Galavis was going to be appearing on “Good Morning America,” you knew that there were going to be a couple of subjects of conversation that were discussed at length: His feelings about whether or not there should be a gay “Bachelor,” and also whether or not he was too cruel in reducing contestant Clare Crawley to tears.
When it comes to the former, he continued to hit up a couple of bullet points that he has in previous apologizes, that it was an issue of a language barrier coupled with the fact that he has a gay cousin, and he would never do anything intentionally to hurt anyone else:
“I have a cousin who is gay. His sister is a nun. So it’s been around my house all my life. So, to me, it was a misunderstanding … It’s been hard because, to me, when I speak English, it happened to me two months of filming, sometimes the words that I used were not interpreted the way that they should be interpreted, or I use a wrong word. So I will go on my phone, Google and find the right word and do it that way.”
Juan Pablo also said that he has spoken with officials with GLAAD, and is trying to do what he can in order to correct the damage that his initial comments may have caused.
In regards to Clare, the only thing that he would really say is that he apologized to her for the way in which the situation was handled on this past episode, where he lashed out at her after a makeout session that seemed to be very much enjoyed on both sides. However, he also reasserted that he should not have done it, since it was “unfair” to the other women who were a part of the competition. When it comes to fairness, we suppose we understand what he was saying … but since when is finding the right partner fair, and there is a list of rules to go by? This isn’t “Survivor,” where there are specific things that you have to do every week. (Clare expressed her frustration over the situation in a conference call with reporters last week.)
