‘House of Lies’ season 3, episode 5 review: Marty makes a friend
On Sunday night’s new episode of “House of Lies,” we basically had a chance to see just what happens when Marty Kaan gets close to a client, but also what happens when he figured out a way to continue doing what he does best: Winning at all costs.
Out of all of the episodes this year, we have to say that this was the biggest achievement for Kaan & Associates to date in orchestrating a huge business deal that cut out some of the perceived negative energy from the clothing line. Marty is clearly on cloud 9; not only did he pull this off, but he has a good friendship all of a sudden with a fashion mogul. How many opportunities does someone have to pull something like that off? The answer is “not many.”
While Marty is thrilled and Roscoe is at least impressed by the sort of rich people he’s rolling with (but not with anything else, based on the fight that we saw in this episode), Jeannie doesn’t really seem to care so long as the job is done. This wasn’t her biggest or her best job.
There was a ton of Clyde this week, but we still struggle with the nature of this guy, and whether or not he possesses any quality at all that makes us want to root for him. The only reason that he holds value now is his information. Strangely, our top moment in this whole episode was that hilarious implementation of Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved” for a scene involving Doug. It was both incredibly disturbing but wickedly funny at the same time. We like it when this show gets dark, so long as it makes sense. Grade: B.
