NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Reflect on a certain ‘bandit’ with a full song
In our mind, there are two gems of “Community” season 5 so far: The David Fincher spoof revolving around quarters and butt-cracks (immature as that sounds), and also the departure of Donald Glover a few weeks ago.
Well, think of this as a nice little treat to keep you excited about the show until it returns from the Olympics hiatus on February 27: The full version of the anthem all about the “asscrack bandit” as penned by Ben Folds. This song was the perfect way to end the episode, which also featured a cameo appearance from Folds; there was no reveal as to who was the actual bandit, and it feels instead like this is going to be something that lingers for the rest of the series and is never fully revealed. (We are more than happy if that is the case.)
Folds created quite a wonderful little song here about what is such a silly subject. The lyrics are quite outstanding and hilarious, and there is even still a nice little hook that makes listening to it a lot of fun. It sounds just like the sort of song that you would hear at the end of a mystery movie, when there are still huge questions about what happened, and where the characters go from here.
To us, what we personally consider to be an even greater gem about this whole story is that it was seeded in a previous episode, where the villain was mentioned during a heated political debate. This sort of planning must always be commended.
