Does ‘Last Comic Standing’ have competition? TBS greenlights comedy search
Over the years (at least the years that it has actually been on TV), “Last Comic Standing” has really been the only show out there that is solely devoted to ensuring that amateur comedians have a chance to get on TV, and consequently make a name for themselves.
However, there have been some changes to that show this year to make it at least a little bit less desirable. For example, the casting search this time around is reportedly relegated more to just comedians who are already at least reasonably established and well-known within the industry. Luckily, there may be a new program out there that is intent to change that … at least to a certain extent.
Sources confirm that TBS is looking to extend their comedy brand beyond just “King of the Nerds,” and are working on a new series entitled at the moment “Funniest Wins.” The show comes from Marlon Wayans, and the episodes would feature him, his family, and some of his comedy friends every week evaluating a group of amateur comics. In the end, the winner of the contest could have the chance to star in an online series on Wayans’ hub online, in addition to some of the other publicity that you receive simply by going on the show.
We’re all for the idea of giving aspiring comics somewhere other than “America’s Got Talent” to try out these days. Plus, these sort of shows can lead to some sort of career. Todd Glass, Alonzo Bodden, Amy Schumer, Gabriel Iglesias, Doug Benson, and Lavell Crawford are all comics to really find an audience thanks to their time on this show.
