NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Duncan has a date
Who wants to see Professor Duncan get his romance on? Just the idea of it sounds pretty entertaining in itself, but that is exactly what we are going to see when “Community” season 5 returns to the air after its Olympic coverage comes to a close.
The next new episode of the show is set to air on Thursday, February 27, and theme of it is going to be … Duncan dating Britta? Well, he is at least going to recruit Jeff Winger in an attempt to help secure a chance with her. This isn’t much of a surprise to us, given that Duncan has had an interest really since the beginning of the show; plus, John Oliver really needs something interesting to do in order to justify being around for this season.
Do we have concerns about “Community” suddenly turning into a romantic comedy a la something that you’d pay to see at a movie theater this time of year? Not really. Creator Dan Harmon has already said publicly that he has no interest in turning this show into a romance, and season 4 already tried enough of that. This is probably just an attempt to play for laughs. We know that the bigger concern for many is going to be Britta’s slow devolution into more of a cartoon character in recent seasons, when she was at one point a little more grounded. To be fair we feel like season 5 has improved on that somewhat, and her handling of Abed’s feelings last week actually was her using her powers of psychology for good.
What do you think about the idea of Duncan with Britta: Pretty hilarious, or quite frankly a bridge too far for some of these characters?
