‘Sharknado 2’ brings back Ian Ziering, Tara Reid

We like to pride ourselves on being your go-to source for everything “Sharknado,” mostly because we like to think that everyone needs to be prepared in case such a terrible thing ever happens to you.

This time around, we are pleased to announce that two of the victims (and heroes) of the next upcoming / terrifying shark-and-tornado hybrid attack are … the same two victims of the first one. Both Ian Ziering and Tara Reid (per the New York Daily News) are set to reprise their roles as the ironically-named Fin and April for “Sharknado: The Second One,” which is set to unleash its fury on Syfy this summer. The biggest change for the sequel is that the setting is moving to New York City, which we’re assuming is because it is far too unlikely for a sharknado to take place in the same spot twice.

In a statement, Paul Bales, COO for production company The Asylum (a.k.a. the masterminds behind this phenomenon), brilliantly explained why you must watch this movie:

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit. Can lightning strike twice? I don’t know, but it’s a scientific fact that you’re more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that’s got to count for something.”

Anthony Ferrante is returning to direct the second installment in the “franchise” (if you can call it that right now), while Thunder Levin, which is a name very appropriate given the subject matter, will once again write the screenplay. Obviously, we are sure that breaks your heart if you legitimately believed that Damon Lindelof was writing the screenplay for the sequel while simultaneously watching the first one last year.

Given the sort of social-media feeding frenzy that happened during the first “Sharknado,” we’ll be waiting and watching for the second one like it is the biggest TV movie of the summer … which it may very well be.
