‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Melissa McCarthy, Kenan Thompson talk around Super Bowl
The folks over at “Saturday Night Live” this week have come up with what is, at least per their estimation, a heck of a funny move off of something that has been one of the most annoying rules of television production for some time: Being unable to actually say the words “Super Bowl” on air unless you are on the network to actually have the Super Bowl that year.
Thanks to that, Kenan Thompson tells Melissa McCarthy a list of other suggested names that they can use for this weekend’s show in the video below. This is the typical “SNL” promo in structure, but a pretty funny one. You have McCarthy beating up Kenan, some great jokes about “third time being the charm,” and also some dancing and singing over the words Imagine Dragons, who just so happen to the be musical guests for this episode.
This is McCarthy’s third appearance as a host on the show, and there is a reason that Lorne Michaels brings her back time and time again: She’s hilarious. She is game to really take on anything and everything when it comes to sketches, and she also brings an extensive sketch background to the table. She actually could have been a cast member based on what she has done, which is probably one of the many reasons why she fits in so well with this group. Really, what we should just be grateful for above all else is that CBS, who has her thanks to “Mike & Molly,” allows her to go back on this show time and time again.
