‘American Idol XIII’ partnering with Google for revolutionary new voting method
Just in case you really did not feel like “American Idol” had enough ways already for you to cast a vote for your favorite contestant, the show has come up with yet another method that in part should replace their previous AT&T phone sponsorship that they have had since the very beginning.
Starting with the live rounds at the end of next month, a new way of voting will be introduced where you can literally use Google Search to help cast your vote for your favorite artist. While details are still somewhat forthcoming, this is a way to vote that is convenient – just by visiting the most-popular search engine in America. It would be similar in a way to voting via Twitter, but that is not something that the show is implementing this year. (We see that as a good thing, since that can be so easy manipulated by either fake accounts or celebrity endorsements causing votes from people who are not even fans.)
This brings in total the number of voting options for viewers up to five. In addition to Google, you can also vote via text, on AmericanIdol.com, the American Idol App, or the old-fashioned route of dialing to a toll-free number. It is whatever works for you and your desire to have your voice heard.
Also, the show will also be working with Facebook to showcase some sort of real-time voting results, which is apparently the next big thing since people no longer have an interest in even waiting 24 hours to see what their peers think.
Now, let’s just hope that there are contestants in the live rounds that are actually worth supporting. While the crop of contestants looks strong so far, there’s a difference between being able to rock out a song that you have been working on since the very beginning of your music career, and having to get together performances in the span of a few days with a song you may not know very well (if at all).
