Mike Ditka does his best Miley Cyrus in Pepsi Super Bowl / Grammy commercial
Is Pepsi’s new commercial really for the Super Bowl, or the Grammys? It may seem somewhat confusing at first, but we feel like we’ve put our detective caps on and figured this one out: It’s a Grammy halftime show!
Basically, what Pepsi did here that was sort of smart with a twist to the traditional Super Bowl tradition. Rather than having a Super Bowl commercial or a halftime show be all about a singer, they made a Grammy commercial themed around a halftime show starring NFL legends. Basically, it was one of the most meta commercials in the history of the Grammys.
Some of the stars who turned up for the ad included Mike Ditka (doing his best Miley Cyrus and entering on a wrecking ball), Deion Sanders, and Terry Bradshaw. The only downside is that the majority of the people in this ad are some that you see on TV regularly as it is, so it is hardly like there are any significant surprises here. For those of you who are singing show fans, there is a little cameo of Cassadee Pope at around the 2:05 mark as one of the singers sitting in the audience as this big show plays out around them.
All in all, this is a pretty fun ad! It also had to be a pretty expensive one for Pepsi to pay for, given that it runs the entirety of a commercial break and doesn’t really give any other ad a chance to rise to the surface. Then again, these people surely have the cash and then some.
