‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 4 (PBS) preview: Michelle Dockery, Joanna Froggatt scoop

What is happening on Sunday night’s “Downton Abbey” episode? Think of this article as a chance to at least tease a little bit of the story, without giving all of it away for those of you devoted viewers in America, who have also somehow managed to find a way to avoid any and all spoilers. If you have figured that you, you are a very clever one indeed!

1. The biggest piece of information that we can offer up about this episode is that if you thought things were complicated / awful for Anna already, they are about to get so much worse. One of the biggest moves regarding her relationship with Bates and her recovery from Mr. Green raping her is made here, and ramficiations will be felt the rest of the season.

2. You have spent some time getting to know Lary Mary’s suitor Lord Anthony Gillingham, but this weekend, you’re going to meeting someone else in Charles Blake who could potentially be the right man for her. The difference here is that unlike Gillingham, this does not start out as nearly as romantic a relationship.

3. Alfred is going to have a good story this week that takes him out of the Abbey, and into a different sort of location than what we have seen on the show over the years. As for a hint, a new career path will be involved.

4. Finally, there are some plans in place for a birthday party for Robert to be held soon, but these are strictly plans right now more so than anything that is locked in to be happening for sure.
