NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5: Ratings, reaction from Donald Glover’s exit
Maybe we still haven’t emotionally moved on just yet from the exit of Donald Glover from “Community.” If that is truly the case, then we understand why we are still talking about it now.
The first thing we want to is chat about the ratings! It only seems appropriate that the last episode with him posted the same not-great ratings as all of the ones beforehand, even if it was the best single 30 minutes of any show we have seen all year. This 1.1 rating is just enough to keep the show firmly on the bubble, but not enough to actually propel it towards “will be renewed for sure” territory. Sadly, that is still something that you’re going to be waiting on for a while, even if we suspect that it is still likely to return thanks to the pretty atrocious ratings that almost everything else comedy-related posts on NBC.
Also, we wanted to post this Twitter quote from creator Dan Harmon, mostly because it’s not really that often that you get to hear him or anyone else speak so personally and candidly over a cast member:
“And thanks to Donald Glover. I really don’t have the words to express my admiration of this man. All I can do is clone myself and move on.”
For Donald’s part, he has been very quiet about his episode both before and after it aired. Are we really surprised by this? Not really, mostly because he was very quiet about the show at any point over the past two years. Season 2 was the last time that we interviewed him, and it was from that point on that the promotional appearances for him started to slow down.
All in all, we’re just glad that most of the internet loved this episode as much as we did, and it gives us great faith that even without Donald, the writers have a plan to ensure that the show is still as awesome as always.
