NBC’s ‘Community’ season 5, episode 5 video: Sneak peek at Donald Glover’s exit
While you may have to wait until “Community” actually airs on NBC Thursday night in order to see the full send-off of Donald Glvoer’s character of Troy Barnes, at least the sneak-peek video below gives you an idea of how some of the characters at Greendale are going to try to send him off.
This peek (via TVLine) shows what could end up becoming the overall theme for this episode overall: Just when it starts to look as though everyone is reading to start getting emotional regarding the departure of Troy for at least a year (if not more), Dean Pelton comes on over the loudspeaker with an announcement. There may always be a distraction that keeps everyone from really dealing with the elephant in the room until the very end of the episode.
With all of this being said, there is at least going to be some pretty fantastic comedy. Troy is given the gift of an international translator, and then could in some way end up aiding him in his journey around the world, which was brought to him courtesy of Pierce Hawthorne’s final will. This is a chance for him to prove himself as a human being, and then return with enough shares of Pierce’s business to really set him up for the rest of his days. Troy suddenly will not have to worry about living in some tiny apartment and failing to pay the rent; he’ll have other priorities!
While it may be somewhat of an aside, one thing that we do appreciate in particular about the way in which Troy’s exit is being handled is that there is at least an ending set up here that could be reversed, in the end that Donald does want to come back. He is still loved and adored among the cast, and the only reason that he seems to be leaving is so that he can start to scratch another creative itch that he may have.
