Bravo announces a new ‘Top Chef’ show in ‘Top Chef Extreme’

Do you want to try something new from the “Top Chef” universe? Well, then you may be pleased with the news that Bravo still is not giving up in the slightest when it comes to delivering more and more stuff from the franchise.

Now, the network that has already brought you the original, “Top Chef Masters,” the web series “Battle of the Sous Chefs” and “Last Chance Kitchen,” and the documentary show “Life After Top Chef,” are now working on a show entitled “Top Chef Extreme” (just in case you are one of those people who believes that everything is better with the word “extreme” added to the end of it). As for what the show will focus on, think of two chefs from past editions of the franchise facing off against each other in some way.

Do we think that this is a great idea for bringing back past contestants? Yes and no. These head-to-head duels work better on the Food Network in our mind, where we tend to think of competitions as a little more disposable. (The winners of each episode will return for the finale, but still.) Also, isn’t this what “Top Chef All-Stars” is for? We would personally not be too opposed to the show adopting a format where one out of every five seasons is an all-stars, and they bring back some of the best chefs from years past. (Season 8 was one of our favorite seasons, mostly because there were great chefs and we hadn’t seen most of them in a while.)

Given that “Life After Top Chef” was not really that interesting or successful, we do not really have much hope for this one, either. It is just that you’re asking viewers to make way too much of a commitment to you to watch so many shows a year.
