‘American Idol’ winner Candice Glover thinks album delays ultimately ‘helped’ her

Candice Glover, perhaps more so than any other “American Idol” winner so far, has been through the wringer since this past May. While most champions tend to receive everything from constant promotion to a single on the radio by the fall, her entire process of preparing “Music Speaks” has been pretty quiet. Her single “I Am Beautiful” failed to really take off, and she didn’t get much promo at all over the summer.

As if all of this was just not stressful in itself, there was also the frequent delays of her debut. Originally, the release window was just a couple of months after the season, but it was then pushed back to October and then February. At this point (especially given that winter is not traditionally a good time to put out music), this could have been when Candice started to feel a little despondent. However, she tells The Hollywood Reporter that she has made a pretty successful effort to not let anything get to her too badly:

“At first, I thought people would forget about me, and then there were all the negative things people were saying about the season as a whole, and that discouraged me. Eventually, I got to that moment where I knew delaying the release would help me more than hinder me.”

Glover claims that the extra time has afforded her many more opportunities to prepare and write more music, which has been a pretty valuable asset for her. The other good news is that Fox is going to give her some opportunities to promote in the coming weeks, including an inevitable performance at some point. (That always happens for returning champs.)

Do you still think that Candice is going to have a successful album, even if it takes her a little longer to build up attention for it than some other past winners? Share some of your thoughts below.
