‘White Collar’ season 5, episode 12 preview: Matt Bomer, ‘Taking Stock,’ and diamonds
The thing that makes Thursday night’s “White Collar” interesting is that if this show was attempting to be as neat and tidy as humanly possible, it would have just allowed it to be the finale. Rebecca was arrested after her attempts to outsmart Neal Caffrey and the FBI; not only that, but Peter seemed to have his own shot at a fresh start courtesy of an offer in Washington.
However, things are never that easy in the world of Neal. This is what gets us to next week’s “Taking Stock,” an episode that is going to be all about a diamond, a surprise for Peter, and also some other important questions when it comes to the Neal – Rebecca relationship. Does Matt Bomer’s character still love her, or is there still a mental mind-game going on here? He was able to use the feelings that she had for him in a way to get her arrested, but she also promised him that this wasn’t over. Given that there are two episodes left, we are very willing to side with her.
All in all, what we appreciate the most about this story right now is that it’s allowed “White Collar” to be more procedural than ever, and follow along this new sort of serialized model that USA was not at one points that interested in. Ultimately, this makes watching the show so much more exciting, as we are firmly invested in almost everyone the rest of the way. Also, the great thing about what happened to Rebecca is that she is clearly not meant to ever replace Sara, and those of you who love that character can hope for something in the future.

I haven’t liked this season at all. I loved seasons 1, 2 and 3. Loved when Peter and Neal were having a good time together. Loved Neal with Sara. Now, Peter doesn’t even seem to care at all about Neal, who saved his life more than once. And Neal seems very disillusioned about Peter, and mostly unhappy. I hardly recognize the show I fell in love with from the first episode. Jeff Eastin has said that if Peter trusted Neal completely, it would not be the same White Collar. I find that when Peter and Neal distrust and dislike each other too much, it is not the same White Collar I fell in love with. And I never liked Rebecca. I didn’t expect her to be a bad guy, but she seemed phony to me or just a bad actress (didn’t know the actress before White Collar) when she was overacting like this shy geek with a crush on Neal. I almost wish they ended the series when Neal and Mozzie escaped to their island (with the blessing of Peter).

No need to bring Sara back. If they do decide to end this arc with this wonderful character of Rebecca/Rachel, then White Collar needs to keep bringing in fresh faces. Time to leave the old players and storylines in the past. Love WC and this season has been exciting. Like to see it go more in this direction.
I would also like to see at least one episode with Neal’s mother.

No need to bring Sara back. Loving the Rebecca/Rachel storyline. Fresh faces and new stories are the way to go in the future if they do end this arc with this great character.

I don’t think Rebecca has anything in common with Sara. Neal has seriously fallen for Rebecca. There is lot more going on between these two as can be seen through their intense chemistry. This could be Neal’s ultimate downfall or his sweet redemption. With only two episodes left it could go either ways. All I’ll say is WC has never been more intruiguing!

I don’t think it’s over for Neal and Rebecca….they love each other…forget about Sara…Rebecca never admitted to killing Siegel, and interestingly, they said her prints were on the bullet, not the gun….because I am a hopeless romantic, when Neal finds out she is not a killer, they, Neal Rebecca and Mozzie will find the diamond and, with Neal off anklet, Peter in DC, they will “run” again…that is if the series not get renewed, which as of now it has not…if there is a season 6 they better find a way to keep these two brilliant actors together….they are magic on screen…

Agree about Neal and Rebecca. I’m still miffed they made her a killer. Like Neal said how can anybody else measure up now? They are absolutely brilliant together…pure magic as you say!
