‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 7: Walton Goggins talks hopeful return
“Sons of Anarchy” is awesome without Walton Goggins, but with him, it somehow manages to melt your mind. When he first made a surprise cameo during season 5 as Venus Van Dam, it may have been one of the first times that our jaw hit the floor while watching that did not have to do with someone being killed / injured.
When we saw him return for season 6, it was a little more expected, but still an awesome inclusion to the show as we learned more about what makes Venus tick. Not only that, but were there some sparks there between her and Tig? That’s almost spin-off potential right there in our book.
At the moment, Goggins does not know whether or not he is going to be back for the final season this fall for one last hurrah as the character. However, he did tell Zap2It at the TCA event for “Justified” today that both he and “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter want Venus to be back for more. He also said that if it does happen, his preference would be to step back into her shoes without you even knowing that it is going to happen in advance:
“Kurt is just like a brother to me and I think he’s one of the most talented among us and I look for any excuse to work with him … If it does happen, hopefully you won’t know because it’ll be a surprise.”
One of the nice things about Goggins’ guest spots on “Sons of Anarchy” is that it does work well when it comes to timing. While “Justified” airs he can work on other projects, and then he still has some time open in the spring and early summer before having to step into the shoes of Boyd Crowder once again.
It was confirmed earlier today that the final season of “Justified” will air in early 2015. With that being said, FX is going to have quite a challenge moving forward without two of its biggest hits on the roster. Luckily, we know that Sutter is sticking around with another show.
