‘Two and a Half Men’ season 11, episode 12 review: Jeff Probst, and hardly any Amber Tamblyn
“Two and a Half Men” promised something crazy with their new episode Thursday night, and we feel pretty comfortable when we say that they delivered on that.
But when you have so much crazy, wouldn’t you think that there would’ve been more of the woman attached in the picture here? We’ve known for a while that Amber Tamblyn has been one of the best parts of the new season, but there was very little of Jenny in here. Instead, there was just a joke about sex, and she was sent on her way early while we settled back into the other stories.
Of the two, the Walden one was vastly superior. Odette Annable and Clark Duke are both people with a lot of comedy experience already, and you saw it as Walden was pushed slightly out of his comfort zone. Was this still somewhat juvenile and stuffed full of sex humor? Sure, but it is nice to have characters outside of their element. Walden was no longer the boss in this situation. Instead, he was forced to get a real job done for the first time in quite a while before he could hook up with Nicole. Meanwhile, Duke continued to what he does best: Shine as the awkward guy who contributes somewhat to the craziness. At least he’s a sort of computer nerd that we really haven’t seen on the show before.
Meanwhile, Alan’s storyline is just all kinds of “bleh” sometimes, since it’s always the same exact thing. He does a few things to make you feel sorry for him, and then some others that are so awful that you can’t. You see, he thought that going on a double-date as “Jeff Strongman” with Lyndsey and Larry was going to be the ultimate form of retribution for having to be the other man to his ex-girlfriend, but instead, it took him to a swingers’ party. He didn’t end up spending much time at all with his date, and when it comes to Lyndsey, he ended up seeing her swept away by … Jeff Probst. Who knew that he was going to snuff Alan’s torch so dramatically? In this case Alan, the ladies have spoken. It’s time for you to go.
In the end, this was an at-times funny, but ultimately forgettable episode. The hard thing is just moving over to this after watching “Community,” and noticing the real difference when it comes to laughs. Grade: B-.
