Anderson Cooper, Kathy Griffin prepare for night of CNN – New Year’s Eve insanity
Is there a better New Year’s Eve show than CNN’s annual spectacular co-hosted by Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin? Maybe if you want to listen to music, or be reflective about some of the big things that transpired over the past year. This is not a sentimental special, or one that has a ton of song-and-dance. Instead, it’s one that most of the entertainment comes out of Kathy basically trolling the “Anderson Cooper 360” host for a few hours, making him feel very uncomfortable, and then in the end also saying a few things that make headlines.
But this year, Kathy has also apparently decided that there really is no need to wait until the special starts at 9:00 p.m. Eastern to really get people talking.
Cooper on Monday tweeted out the photo of Kathy, and also included the caption that she “just sent me this photo of her outfit for New Year’s Eve. She’s kidding, right? Please tell me she is.” There is obviously a good part of this, and of the show itself, that is completely set-up. Anderson and Kathy are really good friends in real life, and they know that there are certain things worth doing in order to get a rise out of viewers. But, at the same time, Kathy seems to have quite the understanding of what is going to make headlines even beyond that. She’s been known to surprise Cooper during the show, and she is also well aware of the fact that he likes to be in constant control. That’s why his giggle fits have brought so many ridiculous headlines over the years.
We’d like to sit here and say that we wish that these two could do more work together over the course of the year, but we are almost content that they don’t for one simple reason: It keeps them fresh for this show. We really don’t need to see too much of them, since by the time this rolls around, we always miss the craziness that they bring to the screen.
We’ll be around all night tonight as one of the few sober people bringing you coverage of all things New Year’s Eve on TV.
