‘True Blood’ season 7 spoilers: Luke Grimes makes surprising exit as Jessica’s love interest
Even though “True Blood” season 7 has not officially started up production just yet, there is already some big news that is going to impact one of the stories that was originally planned.
According to a new report from TVLine, Luke Grimes, who played the vampire and love interest for Jessica Hamby on the show’s sixth season, has decided to leave the show rather than continue forward as the character. A source explained to the website that when it comes to this decision, the direction that the writers and producers were taking with the story was the primary factor:
“He initially joined the show because he wanted to work with [his Forever co-star] Deborah Ann Woll … But when he started reading the scripts for Season 7, he was disappointed to learn that they were going in a completely different direction with James.”
The intention now is for this role to be recast, and producers will be on the hunt for a new James soon enough. Given that filming will be underway in just a matter of weeks, there is not going to be too much time in order to make sure that it happens. As for Grimes, he is leaving with the knowledge that he will not be out of work. It has already been confirmed that he is appearing in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie as Christian Grey’s brother.
From a personal standpoint, we would admittedly not be too upset if the writers decided to completely drift away from James and most of the other “new” characters and focus more on some of the core cast. The people who really deserve their due are the likes of Sookie, Jason, Lafayette, Tara, Arlene, Eric, Pam, and Andy. All of them at least had some sort of presence from the first season onward, and we even care about them more than someone like Alcide, who joined a few seasons in and has since found quite a role for himself.
