When does ‘The Americans’ season 2 premiere? FX answers!
FX has just delivered a late Christmas gift for everyone who loves “The Americans”: Official word on when the show is going to be coming back on the network for its second season: Wednesday, February 26 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The primary reason to us that the timing of this particular premiere is interesting is because it is a little bit later in the year than we first expected; however, it also is a date that makes a whole lot of sense when you consider the other variables that are at play here. The show lost a ton of live viewers during season 1 because it competed against networks at their peak of programming, so why do that again? Not only that, but the show would have potentially been forced to air against the beast otherwise known as the Winter Olympics in February, and there is no way that anyone wanted to see that happen. Many other networks are also structuring their programming in such a way that they avoid this.
When “The Americans” first premiered on FX earlier this year, it set records for the most-watched series debut ever, beating even “American Horror Story” (which has a number of records on its own now). It’s an excellent take on espionage and a dark side of the Cold War, and one of the things that probably hurts it so much in awards season is it airing at a time that is so far away from all of the voting periods.
What do you think about this premiere date, and is there anything that you are hoping to see from Matthew Rhys, Keri Russell, and the rest of the cast this season? Sound off in the comment box below.
