‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2014 finale: Model Abbey Clancy, Aljaž Skorjanec season 11 winners
Even thought the American “Dancing with the Stars” has been over for some time this fall, the British original in “Strictly Come Dancing” today came to a close with a winner that not too many people outside of Britain may know by name: Model Abbey Clancy. She won the competition this season with Aljaž Skorjanec, a newcomer to the competition, and the two were the first team on the 11th season to get a perfect 10 from the judges, and also a perfect 40.
In winning the title, Clancy beat out a pair of other celebrities in “Breakfast” presenter Susanna Reed and also “Coronation Street” actress Natalie Gumede. Clearly, this was a season where the ladies dominated, as there was not a male contestant in the final three at all this year.
“Strictly Come Dancing” remains quite an audience phenomenon in the United Kingdom, with the show routinely drawing ratings that were strong enough to defeat rival “The X Factor” UK. One of the reasons for its success is that it only runs once a year, which helps it to get better British celebrities, and also allows viewers an opportunity to miss it a little bit before it comes back on the air for more.
For those curious who are reading this from North America, there are at least some names on the pro side that you may be familiar with on some level from this season. Pasha Kovalev, for example, is a former “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant who occasionally does come back for all-star performances during the summer months. Meanwhile, Iveta Lukosiute was a contestant on season 8 of the Fox primetime show. This competition has long been a sort of farm system for the ballroom franchise, as Chelsie Hightower, Lindsay Arnold, and Lacey Schwimmer are just some of the former “So You Think You Can Dance” contestants to make it on “Dancing with the Stars.”
