‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Co-creator on early series finale date
Earlier this week, you probably heard the surprising news that rather than air a series finale in May (as is typically the tradition), the story of “How I Met Your Mother” is actually going to be coming to a close on Monday, March 31. What has been somewhat unusual about this news is reading some of the responses to it on the internet. For whatever reason, we have literally seen some people complain about getting to watch something earlier than they were first planning. (Yes, we did find that somewhat hilarious … and proof that some people really don’t like change.)
What is the reason for the move up? In our initial piece about it, we suggested that CBS wants to test out some other programming in that timeslot in order to see if it is “How I Met Your Mother” that is such a draw, or if something else could flourish there as well. Now, series co-creator Craig Thomas is also sharing his thoughts, and based on what he posted on Twitter, there really is quite an upside to the show over getting the opportunity to air their finale early:
“It’s a change – but fewer repeats, promotion during March Madness, and we get to do our finale not up against any other finales… upsides!”
There definitely are some good points in here, and we imagine that there will also be huge ratings for the episode given how many people have watched this show at one point or another over the course of its run. Thomas is also right about March Madness, especially since this episode will be airing right in the thick of things.
But, before we get to that hour-long finale, there are still other stories to tell. Specifically, there are nine episodes not including the final two that are still left to air, and we’ll get an opportunity to start seeing those again come Monday, January 13.
