‘White Collar’ season 5, episode 9 preview: Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, and past mistakes
Can a guy like Neal Caffrey really ever be redeemed? That is something that we are thinking about when talking about “White Collar,” especially as we get closer to the end of this season. We have seen him do good things, and we’ve also seen him break the law … many times. But what we have on the new episode airing next week (one of the few shows to actually air new episodes next week) is a case that brings back a part of Neal’s past that he definitely does not want resurfaced.
So how much trouble is Matt Bomer’s character in? Let’s just put it this way: Peter ends up getting himself thrown into a larceny case that is still unsolved, and Neal’s in trouble thanks to his involvement in the original crime. This is where there are trust issues that come back into play, and quite a bit is at stake for Peter, who has been through his fair share of legal woes as of late, as well.
So this ultimately is the dilemma that Peter has to think about here before deciding his next move: Is he really willing to tempt fate in order to protect Neal, or is he better off cooperating fully and just hoping that something else goes wrong? It’s the perfect set-up for the episode, and despite how much has changed over the past five seasons, we like how this still feels like vintage “White Collar,” and what so many people still watch the show are hoping to see. If Tim DeKay and Bomer kill this like they have many in the past, you should be going into the holidays as happy men and women.

As usual, I can’t wait! White Collar is still the most fun on TV. If Peter ever completely trusts Neal or if Neal completely gives up his mischief, it wouldn’t be White Collar. It’s the shenanigans that make it so much fun.
