‘Shark Tank’ preview: Tipsy Elves, Hanukkah Tree Topper, a RuckPack update, and other news
Friday night’s “Shark Tank” is going to be one that is all about celebrating the holiday season, but before we even come to that, why not pass along some other cheer? In news that was first shared today by The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has upped the episode count for the fifth season to a whopping 28 episodes. That means that there will be around 110 products that could be shown in front of the sharks this season, and it also is an increase of four from the 24 that were originally scheduled to be produced.
So why more episodes? The easy answer is that it’s a good business move all around. The sharks get a chance to invest in more products and make money, while it delivers big ratings for ABC and helps those in need of an extra boost in their business. Also, it’s not like it takes that long to film an episode of this show compared to a reality competition or a scripted show. You can probably film a number of pitches with the sharks in the matter of mere days, even if there is more than what we see on TV.
Now, let’s turn to the episode airing tomorrow night. There are two holiday products that we know are going to be shown, and they actually are both inclusive in celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah.
The Hanukkah Tree Topper – Basically, it’s a Star of David that you put on your Christmas tree. While we personally really love the idea, the market here is pretty limiting. You’re going to need to find couples that celebrate both holidays, or Jewish people who just happen to want a Christmas tree for some reason. Add to this seasonality, and you’re looking at a very tiny window to make money.
Tipsy Elves – We like this in a demented sort of way. They’re modern, tacky Christmas sweaters! You can see the product shown in the THR video below, and in that, we are actually reminded of something that long forgot in that Mark Cuban is Jewish. (He is given a Hanukkah sweater.) Some of these your grandma would probably slap you for wearing because they’re so crass. This is a much better idea when it comes to pure moneymaking, given that people continually buy sweaters whereas they may only buy a few tree toppers in their lifetime. But, once again, you gotta make all of your money in around one or two months a year. We know that Kevin O’Leary hates that.
Finally, take a look at the full synopsis below to learn just who is going to be the subject of the “Shark Tank” update this week:
“A man from Lubbock, TX believes his colorful, magnetic light strands hold the solution to one of the holiday’s biggest headaches; a man from San Diego, CA pitches his Christmaskah item for interfaith families that bridges the gap between “Ho, ho, ho,” and “Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel;” and a business duo from San Diego presents a fashion show highlighting their fun, witty take on the traditional Christmas sweater of the past. Also, a model and hairstylist say there is nothing fake in wanting to make a real deal with their luxurious clip-in hair extensions. The holidays have already taken off for Marine Corps aviation officer Major Robert Dyer, a highly decorated combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, with RuckPack, his energy and nutritional supplement designed and tested by active duty military personnel.”
