‘The Biggest Loser’ season 15 loses ‘American Idol’ winner Ruben Studdard … again
At this point, it’s probably pretty fair to say that Ruben Studdard’s time on “The Biggest Loser” this season is done … at least until the finale. The soul singer and former “American Idol” champ was already brought back in a controversial “let’s keep the famous person around” sort of decision, but at the end of the day, the producers and the trainers clearly figured out that he was just not going to last long in this competition.
In the end, what cost Ruben his place on the show was merely something that is at the center of what “The Biggest Loser” is all about: losing weight. While we know that he has been successful at home, Ruben struggled to shed the number of pounds that a guy his size typically does on the show. In some ways, that’s one of the fatal flaws of the show in that they make it all about immediate results, even if you have some people who are working hard, but not dropping the pounds. But as critical as we could be about this right now, the show makes up for it with their finales. They are emotional, and they actually allow for the opportunity for every contestant, even the first one who left the ranch, to have their moment in the sun.
Do we think that Ruben is going to win the at-home prize this season? Probably not, since he would have to lose way too much at home in a short amount of time. But, we feel like he probably got what he was coming on the show for in the first place (based the publicity): A chance to really figure out a plan to keep him happy and healthy for the rest of his life. He’ll be able to share the full results of his own journey soon.
