‘Girls’ season 3: Co-execuptive producer scores promotion, developing new show with Mike White

The latest -For all fans of the brilliant-but-canceled “Enlightened” (or merely just fans of Mike White), the following story is for you: The writer / executive producer is now working on a new comedy series that features someone else already in the HBO family in Murray Miller.

The co-executive producer on “Girls” has inked a new two-year deal that will not only give him a promotion to executive producer on the Lena Dunham comedy, but he will get an opportunity to work intensely on “Mr. Romance,” a script he is writing with Casper Christensen. White is set to executive-produce on the project, but will not be a writer as of this time.

According to THR, this story is based on the nonfiction article The Only Muscle I Can’t Control: In Search of the Next Romance Novel Cover Manwhich is literally about the hunt to find the perfect Fabio-like model for the front cover of romance novels. We find the idea to be pretty brilliant, at least depending on the sort of cast you get on board (personally we are rooting for Evan Stone for the role). Given that this is HBO, and they traditionally make things that do not suck, we’re optimistic.

HBO is in need of another smash hit comedy series, which they really haven’t had since the days of “Entourage.” (The closest thing they had in “Eastbound and Down” just ended.) While “Girls” draws a ton of buzz and conversation on Twitter, its numbers for live viewing are probably not as impressive as you would expect. Given that they have shows like “Game of Thrones” and “True Blood” that draw over four million viewers, we’re sure that they would love a comedy that pulled in at least half of that audience.
