‘Glee’ season 5: Lea Michele announces ‘Cannonball’ single, ‘Louder’ album

Cannonball -Miley Cyrus may have a wrecking ball, but Lea Michele has something that, at lest from a distance, could be pretty effective in its own right.

Today, the “Glee” star announced that the first single from her upcoming album “Louder” was going to be entitled “Cannonball,” and she also shared the accompanying art for the single cover on her Twitter account. It seems to be going for some sort of somber mood, or at least this is the impression that the grayscale appearance gives on it right away. In the end, it could end up having a very different sort of effect when the dust settles and we actually get the opportunity to hear the track.

So when is that date going to be? Well, based on the information that is out there right now, it looks like we will get an opportunity to hear it come December 10. The song will be made available to anyone who pre-orders her upcoming album; however, she has not announced whether or not this will be the song that is sent to radio. If this is in any way similar to other original tunes that has been launched in December, it will probably spend a couple of weeks gathering attention from Gleeks and music fans, and then try to make more of a radio push with either this or another track early next year, when the charts are not so stuffed full of Christmas carols. (You may even hear one or two sung by her on the radio, based on the fact that “Glee” has three Christmas albums out already … and soon to be a fourth.)

Lea has been hard at work on this disc for some time, especially given that she recently shot her first music video, and has taken whatever time she can when not filming the show to hit the studio. This would make her the third start of the show to have an album out following the series premiere, as Matthew Morrison and Mark Salling also have releases. Naya Rivera has also been working on an album, but there is no word when it will hit stores.
