Ratings: Without ‘NCIS,’ ‘Agents of SHIELD” rises to the occasion; ‘The Originals’ keeps audience

The big show -The biggest thing that we take from the ratings for Tuesday night is that surprisingly, Thanksgiving Week did not really take too big of a toll on some of your favorite shows; though to be fair, many of them were aided by either a lack of competition, or airing some sort of big episode or finale.

For Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” this episode was all about having the opportunity to air in a frame where it was not forced to compete in some way against the beast known as “NCIS.” A 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic is one of the its biggest week-to-week increases of the season, even it is just a couple of points. This at least justifies the full-season renewal, and it may be a sign of hope to ABC that this show, despite middling quality at times, is not for sure going to fall off a clip during the spring months where there is another little option known as “going outside.”

Also impressive is that The CW continues to be so strong by their standards, despite one of the shows returning from a brief hiatus. “The Originals” still returned with a solid 1.1, which is all but a guarantee that this show has a second season in it, and is more than just an attempt to capitalize on the success of “The Vampire Diaries.” As a matter of fact, we actually believe that this is the much better show of the two.

There is still some bad news for Fox’s comedy lineup, at least when it comes to the fact that “Dads” is proving to be a show not worthy of a second season, and “New Girl” is the only clear winner. We do imagine that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will still be back, though, mostly because it is the second-highest-rated consistently at this point, and it does so despite airing after a show in “Dads” with far smaller numbers. (It’s not often that you see that happen with a half-hour sitcom airing on the half-hour.)

Tonight, we do expect to see some more significant drops, but we will have some more on that subject for you very soon.
