NBC’s ‘The Voice’: Kelly Clarkson, season 1 alum Xenia returning for next results show
“The Voice” is keeping things in the family for their upcoming December 3 results show, at least in that they are booking some people who are very affiliated with the show’s past.
First and foremost, the show has decided to get more involved than ever before in the Kelly Clarkson business. She’s become a favorite guest as a past adviser, and she also has another interesting connection to the gang in that she’s married to Blake Shelton’s manager Brandon Blackstock. She and Blake are also very good friends, and spend time together along with Brandon and Miranda Lambert away from TV and from music. Kelly will be performing “Underneath the Tree,” which is the same exact tune that she recently belted out during an appearance on “The Today Show” earlier this week.
As for another person with past connections to the show, none other than season 1 star Xenia is going to be returning on the episode, where she will perform “Silver Bells” in a duet with Blake. If this is not a sign that this man is good to the artists who take part in the show on Team Blake, we don’t quite know what is. It’s been a couple of years since she last graced the stage of the competition, but she made it all the way to the top 8 on the first season before she was eliminated. The structure of the voting was a little different then, and she was behind only Dia Frampton on her team.
Overall, “The Voice” continues to be pretty dominant as a ratings force for NBC, even though it does feel already like the show is starting to lose a little bit of its momentum ratings-wise courtesy of airing twice a year. This may be something that is addressed a little more down the line, especially as both it and “American Idol” jostle for numbers and some of the last remaining talent that is out there. (The fate of “The X Factor” for next season is still unknown.)
