ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6, episode 10 review: Did Castle, Beckett talk about kids?
“The Good, the Bad, and the Baby” was a classic “Castle” episode in so many ways. Not only was there a great mystery that actually combined many subplots into one, but it also managed to give us some information that suggests that Castle and Beckett may have some kids of their own someday … maybe.
The major push of the episode was finding both a murderer as well as the parents of a baby that was left abandoned at a church. Somehow, this ended up roping in the New York State lottery, car services, and a robbery from many years ago involving multiple people. Yet somehow, so much of it came together in a way that makes sense. We like the mysteries that can be this complicated, but also come together. Was it very convenient that Detective Ryan happened to be a huge fan of the lottery, and that led to the revelation about how to solve the case? Sure, but if it’s entertaining (and this was), we’ll allow it.
We also found it endearing to see Beckett start to realize that she could be a good mother. Not only that, but there was nothing to be afraid of. The only funny part of this was seeing Alexis suddenly throwing a jolt at Rick by saying that she and her dad could be having kids at the same time. So maybe “Caskett’s” parental hopes may not really be hopes at all. There were no definitive answers in here, but nor were there intentions of doing so. This was more about opening up the discussion.
While we are sure there is disappointment about the lack of 3KX this week or the lack of a cliffhanger, we sometimes don’t mind it. For a midseason finale, this was a fun, heartwarming, and charming “Castle” episode that taught us something new, and also had a happy ending for almost all parties involved. It’s hard to be a Scrooge about that this time of year. Grade: A-.
