‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary special: See deleted scene with Matt Smith, David Tennant, more
Even though we’re now two days removed from watching the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special, why not check out a few more seconds of footage from it? That’s what we have in the video below, which is a clip featuring the likes of David Tennant, Matt Smith, and John Hurt together during one of their time-travel sequences.
As a scene, there is a tiny bit of character development in here, as there is also a little bit of humor. But at the same time, it is pretty easy to figure out why this was cut in the first place. This was not entirely necessary to understand the story of anything, and there is both a continuity error as well as a background shot of modern-day homes. Clearly, these would have been edited out in post-production, so it was probably determined pretty early on in the process that this scene was not going to be included in the actual 75-minute event.
Nonetheless, this is still a rather nice treat to have to go along with all of the other great “Doctor Who” goodies that we have had an opportunity to see as of late. The 50th anniversary was a success no matter how you slice it; not only was the episode by and large excellent, but it drew the best ratings for the series in years in Great Britain. Not only that, but it served as a nice way to further build up excitement for the upcoming Christmas special, which is going to be one of the most-important events to date in that it focuses on the regeneration of The Doctor into the version to be played by Peter Capaldi. After that, the extensive waiting begins until the latter part of 2014 for some more new episodes of the actual series itself. At that point, it will have been over a year since there were regular episodes of the show on the air.
