‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley’s search in midseason finale

While there may not be a new episode of “The Vampire Diaries” season 5 airing on The CW this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there still is one coming up not long after that in the midseason finale. “Fifty Shades of Grayson” has a pretty tongue-in-cheek name, and it also is going to have a story that creates another interesting dynamic as we start to learn a little bit more about who Dr. Wes really is, and what he is trying to do at Whitmore College. If you thought that Silas was going to be the Big Bad for this season, you may have a bit of a surprise coming.

As the official synopsis for this episode below teases, one of the other interesting stories to keep watch on in this episode is going to revolve around Nina Dobrev and her two different roles. One of them (in Elena) is going to need help from Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley’s Salvatore brothers, while the other one in Katherine is going to realize that she may have been looking for help in all of the wrong places:

“Damon (Ian Somerhalder) realizes Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in danger and enlists Stefan’s (Paul Wesley) help to find her. The brothers pay a visit to Aaron (guest star Shaun Sipos), and Damon shocks Stefan by revealing his first-hand knowledge of Aaron’s family. In an attempt to stop Damon, Dr. Wes (guest star Rick Cosnett) unleashes his secret weapon, forcing Damon to deal with a part of his past he thought was gone forever, as well as the consequences of his decades-long plan for revenge. Meanwhile, Elena is horrified by Dr. Wes’ confessions about the dark history of Whitmore College and his own ultimate goal. Finally, a frantic Katherine (Nina Dobrev) turns to Matt (Zach Roerig) for help, until she realizes that Nadia (guest star Olga Fonda) may be the one who can solve her problem.”

Will there be a few surprises in tow during this episode? Almost definitely, and you will probably not see all of them coming. You can at least get a few hints from Kat Graham about the future of this season here, and it could include the return of some guest stars back from the dead.
