‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Ron Burgundy tries to make sense of Peter Capaldi’s casting

The latest -Sometimes, you have to look past the obnoxious product placement and realize that something can still be funny. When Ron Burgundy a.k.a. Will Ferrell was convinced to sit down and make a reaction video to Peter Capaldi’s casting as The Doctor for “Doctor Who” season 8, it was pretty clear that it was just an opportunity to promote “Anchorman 2” across Whovian Nation. But luckily, Burgundy is one heck of a character, and he still possesses the ability to make us laugh regardless if it’s for obvious promotion.

This is where we are now after watching the full video below: We understand that it’s basically a film ad, but it’s a funny one. Like someone would who had never heard of “Doctor Who” in his life, Ron stumbles through reading the story about Capaldi’s casting, and this basically ends up devolving into a twist on the classic “who’s on first base” gig from over half a century ago. Eventually, Ron blames his team for being idiots, completely unaware that the phrase “Doctor Who” actually means something to modern-day viewers.

This video was released just in time for the 50th anniversary special yesterday, which was reportedly watched by over 10 million viewers in Britain. This allowed the special to be one of the five most-watched episodes of the series since its revival in Britain back in 2005, and it may have actually fared much better when you think about DVR viewing, and you also considered the folks who all actually paid to see the special at the local cinema. Following the special, BBC teased the upcoming Christmas Special airing next month, which will feature the first lengthy appearance of Capaldi presumably (unless Steven Moffat really wants to be a trickster). For those of you with a keen eye, you would have noticed that the “Thick of It” actor was briefly seen at one point during the Anniversary Special, as well, which gives Moffat just that extra bit of flexibility. He can also say now that nothing completely makes 100% sense yet, and leave something for the future.

But in going back to Mr. Burgundy for a minute, do you appreciate this video for the obnoxiousness of it all? Share your thoughts below!
