‘Doctor Who’ Christmas special trailer: Trenzalore, and season 8’s prologue with Matt Smith
You may have to wait for over a month still for the “Doctor Who” Christmas special to come on the air on BBC One, but if there is one thing that we can tell you about it right now based on what we’ve already seen from the show’s first teaser trailer, it will be worth the wait.
Remember Trenzalore, the grave site seemingly for The Doctor? Let’s just say that this is one thing that The Doctor is going to be looking to change as he also looks to uncover a way to truly save Gallifrey beyond just his actions with David Tennant and John Hurt tonight. Sadly, there is not much else that is obvious about this trailer at the moment, save for what we know already: At some point before the end credits, Matt Smith’s version of the character will regenerate, and Peter Capaldi’s will be born. We will most likely get a tiny glimpse of the new Doctor in the closing seconds, though it will be season 8 before we truly start to see just what this man brings to the iconic role.
The Christmas special is likely to return to the old airing formats of the other editions of the show, at least unless a further announcement has been made. This means that Britain will once again be the lucky ones who get a chance to watch it first, and then everyone else will be on hold. Then again, we figure that in a few other countries there will be lots of recording, since the watching TV practice on Christmas is very much rooted in British history. It’s not something that we really see many in North America do.
