‘Glee’ season 5 moves to Tuesdays in February; ‘The Following’ season 2 gets football boost

Fox -Fox has just shown a couple of things off when it comes to their upcoming midseason plans: They are extremely confident in the second season of “The Following,” and not even remotely confident about “Glee” continuing to have any sort of ratings of substance at all.

After all, the network confirmed today that their once-popular musical will return to its Tuesdays-at -8:00 p.m. timeslot starting on February 25, where it will be followed by “New Girl” and a new spot for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” “Dads” will have its first-season run over by then, and “The Mindy Project” (which has seen some pretty awful ratings) will be gone until a little later in the spring. When you consider that “Glee” will be up against “NCIS,” “Agents of SHIELD,” “The Originals,” and possibly even a couple of episodes of “The Voice,” this is Fox throwing some singing students to the wolves.

Meanwhile, “The Following” season 2 has just been given an added boost, as it will launch on Sunday, January 19 following the NFC Championship Game. Given that this is one of the most-watched TV events, you can’t really even complain that it starts at some sort of unusual time. This will just give us an opportunity to actually launch with huge numbers, where we can see if it will maintain them the rest of the year. This is the problem that many other serialized shows face; but, the good news for “The Following” is that unless there is some sort of a massive drop, we would be shocked to see it renewed for a third season.

As for some other scheduling news, “Rake” starring Greg Kinnear will launch on January 23 in the post-“American Idol” timeslot, while the comedy”Enlisted” will start on January 10 at 9:30 p.m., following “Raising Hope.” We don’t want to be overly cynical about the show’s odds here, but there is no other show out there right now with less of a shot of another season than this one.

What do you think about some of this news, and do you think that any of these shows are likely to see even more changes before the end of the season? Just be sure to share your thoughts below!
