‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: Could Nina Dobrev play a FOURTH character?
Is Nina Dobrev officially now the busiest actor on television? On “The Vampire Diaries” through the past few weeks, she has already had the opportunity to play Elena, the now-human Katherine, and also the ancient Amara. However, the latter character seems to no longer be in the realm of the living, and while crazier things have happened on this show, we’re at least going to assume for the time being that she is actually dead. But what may be a little more surprising is the thought that there could still be a fourth character out there for Dobrev to play, which basically puts her a step closer to becoming the Tatiana Maslany of network television.
You’ve already heard hints about it on the show, and Dobrev herself had her own comments to hand down during an interview with E! News:
“Now they’re alluding to a fourth [doppelgänger], although we haven’t done anything, so I can’t say if that’s going to happen for sure.”
But while you wait for that, it also sounds like there could be some pretty interesting stories coming up for Katherine, who is trying to figure out after hundreds of years how to actually adjust to being a mother, and preferably not a terrible one to Nadia:
“As Katherine grows weaker, Nadia is fighting to take care of her and have her in her life. You learn [Katherine] wants to have that relationship, but she keeps screwing it up.”
Personally, we’re down for another doppelganger so long as it keeps Silas and some of that mythology largely at bay for the rest of the season. We’d prefer to see something that is a little bit more about the characters that we already have, and preferably not one that starts giving some other actors twins. While we have confidence they could pull it off, it’d start to become more than a little bit confusing.
