‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 5: New showrunner, replacement for Janet Tamaro, named
“Rizzoli & Isles” has already been renewed for a fifth season, but we are now at a time where we are set to see some sort of creative shakeup. Gone from the position as showrunner will be creator Janet Tamaro, which left TNT and the studio in the position of having to try and find a new one.
Luckily, they have already managed to find a new individual who definitely seems to be right for the job. Not only does this person have a history in procedural television, but they also are experienced in TNT programming already: Jan Nash. Sources confirm that Nash, who worked both on the network’s “Memphis Beat” and also CBS’ long-running hit “Without a Trace,” will take on the difficult challenge of trying to ensure that the show still moves in a positive direction.
TNT has quite a bit invested in “Rizzoli & Isles” at the moment. This is the most-watched show on TNT, with somewhere close to 10 million viewers per episdoe when you factor in DVR viewing. Those are the sort of numbers that you use to launch some other shows.
Luckily, procedural dramas have a good track record of surviving even after showrunner changes. “NCIS” has already gone through some of this, as has “Criminal Minds” and to a certain extent even a serialized show like “Dexter.” Not every show has to be a “Community,” where it becomes a giant story that there is a showrunner swap. What will likely help in this situation is that Tamara is going to still stay on board the series in a smaller role, while she looks to move forward and develop some other projects elsewhere.
