‘Bones’ season 9 spoilers: More details on David Boreanaz-directed episode, inspiration

What's ahead -

For the rest of “Bones” season 9, much is up in the air. Booth and Brennan are already married AND they already have a kid, so the all-familiar “will they or won’t they?” couple tropes have already been fulfilled. This creates an open field of possibility, and while there are going to be some long-term stories coming up (including the arrival of a mysterious “Ghost Killer,” which we are guessing is not exactly just a killer who goes after ghosts), there are also some other plots coming up focused more on standalone stories.

You may have heard already that country singer Charlie Worsham was going to be appearing in an episode directed by David Boreanaz, and now we’ve at least got a few more details about what the story for this episode is going to be. TVLine reports (via executive producer Stephen Nathan) that this is going to be in a way inspired by the 2012 movie “Searching for Sugar Man,” and the story will revolve somewhat around an anonymous singer (Worsham) and the steps that have to be taken to solve and understand his murder.

At least in theory, this sounds like one of the show’s most-intriguing mysteries that they have put before us as of late. “Bones” has that challenge of trying to continually give us episodes and flavors that we have not seen before, and that includes stories that may be based on some other sort of event in pop culture or at least inspired by something in pop culture. “Searching for Sugar Man” is a great place to go for such a story, mostly because this is one of the better movies of its kind put out in the last ten or so years. Let’s just hope that it is a “Bones” classic that gives us something to look forward to, even if it is just a standalone plot.

“Bones” is going to commence airing on Friday nights starting this week, and if you head over to the link here, you can see a preview for the upcoming jury duty-themed episode.
