‘Parks and Recreation’ season 6 spoilers: Amy Poehler offers perspective for Ann, Chris exits
There’s no way getting around the sad news that Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe are leaving “Parks and Recreation” soon. The former has been a part of the series since the very beginning, while the latter joined later but has been a huge part of the world ever since. They’ve each brought such a creative energy to the show, and you know that there are going to be some sort of gaping holes around them that need to be filled in a little bit.
But do these exists necessarily mean that the two will never turn up again on the show? Hardly. As Amy Poehler herself mentions (per TVLine) at a press screening, it is pretty likely that the two of them will be back just about as often as their schedules can allow and they will not be billed as a series regular for:
“It’s really sad… to lose them and to send them off to the great big beyond. But we’re a really tight family here, so you never really feel like you’re saying goodbye to family; you just know won’t see them as much as you have.
“Knowing our show, no one ever really leaves Pawnee — we still call people back that did stuff in the first and second season. “So, I’m certain that Rob and Rashida will make their way back to Pawnee as many times are we can drag them.”
What does make matters at least a little more complicated is when you look at the full list of people who are actually left on the show now. You’ve got some big players like Poehler, Nick Offerman, and Aziz Ansari, but then you have a guy in Chris Pratt who is gone for a big stretch at times, a woman in Retta that has only been given a few major stories in recent years, and then Aubrey Plaza, whose character is great at some things but cannot be used for everything. We’re interested in seeing what happens, just as we are interested in seeing if the show can actually survive this.
“Parks and Recreation” will return with new episodes on Thursday night, and if you want to read more about what to expect from it, just be sure to click here.
