‘Top Chef: New Orleans’ preview: Kermit Ruffins, ‘potluck king’ and more (video)
On Wednesday night, “Top Chef: New Orleans” will not only be back with another new episode, but it will be one that tries to tackle what is really one of the more difficult questions: How can you impress someone at a potluck meal who has already pretty much proven himself to be one of the greatest masters of the trade there is? Kermit Ruffins is the guest on the next challenge, and he is a jazz artist with a personality so big, Bravo could go ahead and create a number of different spin-off series for him if they so wanted to.
From the perspective of food, there is unfortunately not that much you can go on here. We know that the contestants are divided up into teams, and tasked with the great challenge of trying to come up with something good enough to actually impress Kermit and his little group in what would otherwise be a pretty intimidating setting. Could these people actually pull that off? We think so, but they gotta step up their game after this past challenge of the farm-to-table variety.
What is our personal favorite part of the clip is just seeing Kermit go on and on when it comes to the subject of why some of his original potlucks were shut down due to them being “too much fun,” and if you are getting told this by New Orleans, than they have to be really a good time. This is a city that uses fun as a currency just as much as Los Angeles does being famous.
In terms of performance, what we are hoping for is that there is going to be someone else in the competition who really challenges Nina, Justin, and to a lesser extent Carrie at the top of the board. These three are in our mind right now the chefs to beat, since they are combining skill with also likability and creativity. These are three things that are pretty darn essential if you want to be known as a Top Chef.
