‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 spoilers: David Morrissey analyzes where The Governor stands

The latest -You’ve now at least had a little bit of time to take it all in and digest what happened at the end of Sunday night’s all-new episode of “The Walking Dead” season 4: After a great deal of waiting and ambiguity, The Governor is now back and ready to cause some damage. We already know that this is a dangerous guy, and what you now have to therefore wonder is just how dangerous he really is. Is this a guy who is bracing himself to unleash all sorts of carnage on the world, or someone who has suffered, and is now much more interest in just living out some sort of relaxed existence where there are fewer problems and worries?

While David Morrissey will have much more to do on the show starting with the episode airing on AMC next week, it may still take a little bit of time before you get all of the answers that you are hoping to have. It may be a long quote that the actor gave recently to Entertainment Weekly as to where he stands now moving forward, but almost every little part of it is accurate and makes a little bit of sense:

“He’s still the man that we know. It’s not like we can erase his past or change the character totally. He is a man who is aware of himself now. I think the Governor at the beginning of season 3 was a man who was building a future. He had a future for Woodbury. He had a plan for Woodbury. And those plans get smashed. And certainly the future for his daughter and any sort of cure experiment that he and Milton were exploring — that’s out the window now. We leave him with himself and his two henchmen — he’s lost everything. So he is a man that has lost everything. And I think what we see coming up is how he deals with that loss. He’s a dangerous man still and he knows how dangerous he is. He knows what he’s capable of and that is a very dangerous thing. And like I said, it’s about whether he embraces that man and how dangerous he is, or whether he fights him. That’s the question coming in — which character is he happy to be? Which character is he trying to be? We see him at the end of episode 5 and he’s standing outside that prison and looking at that prison and we don’t know whether he’s come in peace or come in war. We don’t know that yet. So we have to wait for that reveal in the upcoming episodes. He might have had an about face, but we don’t know. He’s a man who recognizes his own capabilities. That is fair to say.”

When it comes to how big the hype the character’s return will be next week, that’s what we will watch out for when it comes to the ratings. Last night’s episode scored a 6.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, his is down from a 6.8 rating the week before. However, it is still better than any other non-sports program on the week, and the only reason we have to put “non-sports” in there is because final numbers are still to come for Sunday Night Football. (We personally expect The Governor’s return to bring you back up closer to a 7.0 again.)

For now, what we have for you related to the character is a promo here, which at least gives you a few hints as to what his story could be moving forward.
