‘The Amazing Race 23’ preview: Abu Dhabi, drama, and really high temperatures

There is always something entertaining about seeing “The Amazing Race” take off to the Middle East for an episode or two. Part of it may be that it combines the extreme heat of India with some of the bizarre new-money opulence that you don’t get much of anywhere else in the world. Since most of the dangerous places are off limits, you do end up going to places like Dubai or Abu Dhabi (the case this time), where you have one of the biggest new hubs in all of the region. There is a lot to do and take in, but also a massive desert that can swallow you alive.

While the new preview below does not show you too much of any one story, there are a ton of little elements that you can take from this:

1. The Afghanimals are thrilled to be back in a part of world that they know and can identify with very well thanks to their heritage. It’s an exciting time for them clearly, and they are ready to embrace it.

2. Meanwhile, Tim & Marie come across as people who are a little more interested in just going at each other time and time again in a series of arguments. Marie ticks Tim off, he calls her insane, and repeat. We would complain about it, but they are the sort of fighting couple that we can get behind … mostly because we feel like there’s a good chance that they already hate each other, and it’s not like this show is going to kill a relationship that isn’t really there.

3. There is car racing, and also braving the heat for a challenge that is going to make Travis & Nicole look like they are about to fall over. These two are from Atlanta, and it gets pretty hot there sometimes.
