‘Glee’ season 5 ratings: Even with Demi Lovato, Adam Lambert, numbers tie series low
It was not exactly a mystery to anyone that “Glee” was going to have some ratings woes with Thursday night’s “A Katy or a Gaga” episode. It was never believed that the viewers that came for the Cory Monteith tribute a few weeks ago would be back again tonight, especially after a lengthy layoff. Not only that, but there is an anemic lead-in otherwise known as “the X Factor,” competition from “Grey’s Anatomy” and CBS comedies, and a general distaste for everything going on at McKinley High these days.
Not even the presence of two major guest stars in Adam Lambert and Demi Lovato this week could get the show above a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which ties an all-time series low. You have to wonder that with numbers like this, the show may just have to shift to New York permanently for the sole sake of trimming budget, let alone trying to make the story more relevant. We’re also getting more and more evidence that Demi, despite being huge on Twitter, is not a major ratings draw in America. We cracked a joke about “X Factor” possibly losing to “The Vampire Diaries” before it aired, and the reality was that the two actually tied with a 1.2 rating. That is embarrassing.
We’re not really going to sit here and yell at “Glee” for botching anything. The problem was just that their show had a significant fad feeling to it from the start. There was only so much song-and-dance that most viewers were going to take, and as much fun as we’ve had seeing Adam, Kate Hudson, and Sarah Jessica Parker the past few seasons, they could have ended with season 3 and gone out champions. Everyone still would have assumed the best for these characters without really seeing the entirety of their journey.
Adam and Demi will be around for at least a little while longer, and we’re happy for that; but, the question we wonder now is what is going to happen with “Glee” if it really sticks around for six full seasons. What will the numbers look like next year if they are already this bad? We imagine that Fox is probably regretting that two-season renewal right about now.

Above & beyond the perception that more & more people are no longer adamantly watching Glee like they were during the “early yrs” of Glee, I’m certain Fox Network along with production groups behind Glee have & are still, making an obscene fortune with itunes selling the songs from each episode. I’d think that alone would be reason enough to keep the show on the air for a few more years. The bottom line, ALWAYS comes down to the almighty dollar.

I thought Adam Lamberts rendition of Marry the Night was incredibly amazing, dang he owned that stage, so fun & high energy. But, for me personally, once it was announced that the end of Glee is coming & coming quickly at that, I’m internationally backing away from Glee. I’ve so enjoyed the show, its been my respite over the past several yrs while I was dealing w/2 many deaths in my family, its been my guilty pleasure, my “happy place” etc etc, so I’m preparing myself emotionally for yet another loss in my life. The end of Glee. I’m still a huge gleek, but I don’t want to be too invested when Glee leaves TV & a big part of that, is distancing myself. Its been a hell of a ride though. Overall, Glee has been an amazing, funny, incredible & innovating experience & I’m grateful for that. And it reminded me of how much I love music. Sometimes life takes over like a steamroller & you get so caught up dealing with the daily trials & tribulations of life, that you forget some of the most basic loves you once enjoyed. Glee came into my life when too many bad things were happening and it reminded me of some of the simple joys I’d forgotten I Ioved. Like music, singing & dancing. And I have loved singing along with the cast as well as dancing along with the show (& even Finn was a far better dancer than I’ll ever be, so I only sing & dance along with Glee in the privacy of my living room; trust me, I’m so bad at singing & dancing that I’m doing the world a favor by sparing everyone the sight & sound of my singing & dancing)! but Glee did bring my forgotten love of these simple joys. So to all of the people who made Glee happen, THANK YOY ALL!
