‘The Mentalist’ season 6 spoilers: Don’t expect any sort of Red John trickery
As executive producer Daniel Cerone has confirmed / reconfirmed (depending on who you are) to TVLine, one of the remaining suspects is in fact the villain. Patrick Jane is not going to be so close to the investigation that he somehow misses something for whatever reason; Red John is on the list, and he will be unmasked during the eighth episode of the season. That is going to specifically air two weeks from Sunday, at least so long as there is not some other sort of terrible NFL delay that shoves it back even further.
By the time that “Fire and Brimstone” finally airs, what we will say is that the list will be shortened again to a certain degree, as Jane manages to rule at least one person out for one reason or another. This means that as we are nearing the showdown. We do have some questions though… why keep up such a deadly charade? Is it really worth all of the effort that they are putting in? Plus, they would also wonder whether there would be a temptation to try to pack this in and move forward, given that Jane is obviously starting to figure all of this out.

“One of the suspects?” That’s a very ambiguous list, isn’t it — ultimately? For RJ to be one of the seven we’re being led to believe leaves a tremendous amount of holes in the writing — LEAST of all that Rosalind Harker could have EASILY helped Jane & Lisbon by process of elimination [not to mention Jane noting suspects reaction to her]. Also, there is a definite feeling of LOOSE ends with current and former characters — whose true identities needing to come to light. Hopefully, all the questions in mind will be answered — but I hardly doubt the writers put them there to leave them unanswered. SO OF COURSE there will be SOME kind of twist. That’s how these things end.
