With ‘The Originals’ tracking well and ‘Saving Hope’ renewed, Daniel Gillies is one busy man

Daniel Gillies -How in the world is Daniel Gillies going to have any free time anymore? The man already stars as Elijah on “The Originals,” and now we’ve learned that his Canadian show is going to be back for another season.

CTV announced today that it has ordered an 18-episode third season of “Saving Hope” prior to the show’s winter premiere, which basically means that Gillies is going to have to find ways to pull double-duty here to the best of his ability. So far, he has been able to jump from one show to the other thanks to the merits of good scheduling, but is he really going to be able to carry on this workload forever? There is a reason why being a series regular on a show traditionally means that you don’t also work on another one; it’s a near-impossible feat to do.

“Saving Hope,” for those who remember, used to have an American home as well in NBC; however, the show was canceled there due to abysmal ratings, which means that it is now a show that dominates more in Canada. While it is not exactly the nation’s biggest smash hit there, either, it does clearly fare better to be given this sort of order.

“The Originals” has yet to be officially given a full season order from The CW, but it feels almost a given that this is going to happen sometime soon. It has been a strong performer on Tuesday nights and boosted averages dramatically; compared to last year at around this time, “Supernatural” and Gillies’ show have really produced almost a night-and-day-effect with the numbers that are coming in. “The Originals” was projected to be the best new series for the network, and that has been proven correct.
