‘Criminal Minds’ season 9, episode 8 preview: A deeply disturbing take on a child army
Is there some sort of bizarre, horrifying competition going on right now for various shows to try to outdo one another on a scale of being terrible? “Criminal Minds” has an episode next week that is about something pretty terrifying, and while we’re sure that it makes for interesting headlines, the subject matter is not exactly something that has us that enthused to check it out. Let us just put it this way: There’s not really any desire within us to see something about the formation of child army-of-sorts, even if it is executed well.
This episode is entitled “The Return,” and the promo below suggests that it revolves around a group of teenagers that are being turned into killers by someone who is extremely horrifying. This almost feels like a small-scale version of “The Following,” with the major distinction being that these people are being turned at a slightly younger age.
You can see a few more details below in the official synopsis via CBS:
“When teenagers who were reported missing are suspected of a series of mass murders in Chicago, the BAU investigates their whereabouts to find a motive for the crimes. Also, Morgan has conflicting feelings when his girlfriend takes her job at a hospital as seriously as he takes his.”
Given that this episode is airing in the November sweeps, you have to get the impression that CBS is at least proud of the way in which this story came out. While this says nothing about the subject matter, you are probably going to get a thrill ride that stands up there with some of the more intense stories on “Criminal Minds” over the years. Whether or not it is your cup of tea will be squarely up to you. We just hope that there are some more stories that come up after it that are not this high on the disturbing scale, but we will have to wait and see for more on that.

I think that although the subject of the next episode is strong, it is necessary. I’m from Costa Rica, and in the area where I live, adolescents in Puerto Limon are training drug traffickers and gangs. Now it is very common to see teenagers facing the authority and in the news frequently see guys killed or arrested. The topic is very timely, and I think it’s important for families and teachers that television show cases like that, so they can detect any signs in the young.
