ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6, episode 7 review: Molly Quinn shines in ‘Like Father, Like Daughter’
In many ways, tonight’s “Castle” season 6 episode was the one that you have been waiting for. Not only was there a great mystery, but you had some of Alexis Castle away from Pi, and actually getting an opportunity to work a little bit on her relationship with her dad.
The real star here was Molly Quinn, who bridged the line very well between determination and despondence as she worked to save an innocent man from prison. It took her a little while to even develop the bravery to ask for help in the first place, but she was desperate as there were only a few days until the execution, and she had to figure out whether or not she would be able to do anything.
Luckily, not only did Rick help his daughter out, but they solved the most emotional case of the season. This is not just a case of clearing a man for murder; this is a guy who spent over a decade behind bars, trying with appeal after appeal to try to give him a break. This man in Frank felt since the very beginning like he was just protecting his brother, who felt to be the killer. (We didn’t have any problem buying this, since it was the last thing that the two would likely talk about behind bars.
Away from this case, the important news is that the Castle / Alexis relationship seems somewhat healed. There is still no apology to Pi (and that is sad), but there was at least a scene where Alexis and Beckett started to put together some sort of relationship as a thank-you for her help. For the first time, Beckett felt like a part of this close-knit family, and while there is work to do (including Castle going venue-hunting with her, which was put up for this case), this was a nice way to get the family closer to being big and happy.
So overall, an emotional, well-written episode that was a nice change of pace after some fun ones. November sweeps is a serious time, and there will probably more of that soon. Grade: A-.
Did this “Castle” episode make you tear up, and do you actually wish that there was something said about Pi by the time that this was over? Be sure to share below, and click here for more news (including a preview for next week).

Sorry, in my own opinion, this episode not for me. I hope to see less of this Castle/Alexis arc. Now Becket is feeling it, same feeling of the 2nd wife – an outsider (main reason why she left him)! Same thing happened on that 2 episodes arc of Hunt – she is being left out – and this is the 2nd time! I think this will be her big obstacle – and she can’t compete about that – she will give in all the time – to Castle when it comes to Alexis! Since she is going to marry this guy and start a family – she needs to know where she stand – and be Ok with it!

I hate to be so pragmatic but the Alexis character wouldn’t be able to attend college or afford part of the rent, if Daddy (i.e. Castle) weren’t footing the bill, let alone be able to afford part of the rent with Pi. Perhaps the Alexis character is intelligent but that doesn’t always translate into common sense in a person. The character may be 19 but, she’s still riding on dad’s coat tails. Nothing says he has to pay for her shacking up with Pi, let alone having to be okay with it. Apologies? Perhaps she should be apologizing to him, instead of everyone expecting it to be the other way around. The prior series of events speaks volumes to the millenial generation’s expectations, which runs contrary to the real world. Just sayin’….

Pi and Alexis both owe Castle an apology for the way they behaved in Castle’s home. I have no idea why Castle should be leading out with the apologies when his worthless daughter allowed her boyfriend to treat her father and even Beckett with utter disrespect while he was living at the loft. Alexis’s attitude in this episode was just as arrogant and bratty as in the past episodes. She did not redeem her character one bit in this episode, and I certainly hope that we get to see much less of her for the remainder of the season.

Castle can apologize to Pi later. Tonight’s episode was about his healing his relationship with Alexis, and the case helped them both do that. Mutual respect does wonders!
