‘The Walking Dead’ season 4, episode 4 review: Did Carol leave the prison?
Last week’s episode of “The Walking Dead” season 4 brought us to a very sad and hopeless place when it comes to the survivors at the prison. Many people were becoming infected with the virus that is turning them into walkers without being bitten including Glenn and Sasha, a group has gone out on a medicine run that has quickly gone to crap and Carol took it upon herself to end the lives of two of the infected in hopes of stopping the disease from spreading only to realize that not only did she not stop it, but now she’s a murderer. Are things going to turn around for our survivors tonight or will the situation worsen?
Killer Carol: Now that Rick knows about what Carol did we can’t help but wonder what he plans to do about it. Carol tries to explain herself, saying that Dave and Karen were dying and she hoped to stop the spread of the infection. She tells him that he doesn’t have to like what she did, but he has to accept it. He tells her that it wasn’t her decision to make. Will he tell others? Will he kick her out of the group?
Rick tells her that Tyreese is going to kill her when he finds out and that the group won’t want her there either. He also tells her that if everyone dies and it’s him and her left, that she will be on her own, he doesn’t want her around his kids. He tells her that she has to leave the group and that she can start over leaving her there to fend for herself… just when Carol’s character was starting to become so interesting. What is Daryl going to do when he finds out? And we never even had the Carol/Daryl hook up that many of us longed for.
The medicine mission: Now that the group has lost their car and everything has gone to crap, the group is on foot. Tyreese is still in a state of insanity with a bit of a death wish and Michonne calls him out on it, but it doesn’t seem to do anything. After finding a new car the group is back on the move again until they get to the veterinary clinic. At the clinic they find the medicine that they need, but of course run into walker problems on their way out.
Daryl reminds everyone why he is a badass: While on the medicine run Bob admits to Daryl that he has a drinking problem and that in every group he’s been with, he ends up being the last person alive and drinks himself stupid. He lifts a bottle of booze from the clinic and almost gets them killed over it… Daryl gets in his face about it telling him that if he takes one sip that he is going to get the beating of a lifetime. And this is why we love Daryl.
We aren’t surprised by Rick’s decision to kick Carol out of the prison after what she did, and it was probably the right choice to make, but she is a character that has become so interesting over the past few seasons that we are sad to see her go. Her story with Rick this episode is really what pushed this season to the next level for us. Grade: A –
Do you think Rick made the right decision making Carol leave the group? Do you think Daryl will go out looking for her? Looking for more news, previews and scoop on “The Walking Dead” season 4? Then just click here and we’ll hook you up.
