‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 7 preview: Joanne Froggatt, Laura Carmichael, and troubles
With our final preview for Sunday’s “Downton Abbey” season 4 episode, we basically have what is the showdown between two very troubled characters to see just whose situation is worse … if that is even possible. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Americans!)
First things first, you have a woman in Edith who has gone through hell just in the past couple of weeks alone. It appeared as though she and her editor boyfriend Michael Gregson were going to flee to Germany, where they would be able to get married and start a new life together. However, that has either not happened or Gregson was killed when he did take off, given that he has gone completely missing and Edith’s life is falling apart. While she has the tremendous advantage of wealth to keep her in good shape, she also has a pregnancy that she has yet to disclose to anyone. This is not one of those secrets that can really remain as such … but should this show really have all three of its major characters end up as single parents? It may be good for Laura Carmichael to play, but this may almost be too much tragedy for her character.
Meanwhile, the other troubled woman right now is none other than Joanne Froggatt’s own Anna, who is being forced to deal with the fact that Bates still has not given up on his goal to find the man responsible for raping her. She knows if he does, it could mean the end of Green’s life and also her world. She doesn’t want to see that happen, but we don’t quite know why she does not even implore Bates to not kill anyone, and to consider the consequences of his actions there.
In these photos, both of the characters are preparing to say goodbye to Robert as he departs for America on a brief trip in order to assistant Harold, Cora’s brother who is going through a difficult time. We will see him turn up during the upcoming Christmas special, but the question that comes with that is just what sort of chaos he and Shirley MacLaine’s Martha are going to bring as their brand of crazy carries over.
